Every feedback squeal, bass chug, and hi-hat sizzle of what would be Unwound's final 37 shows was taped, the most compelling bits of which have been edited into a cohesive snapshot of a band at the end of an incredible run.

The pulse of the songs was harder to find and playing at that pace is, well, less forgiving," guitarist John Engle remarked. "Sometimes it felt like whatever we were playing might collapse in the space between notes. Beginning with 'Sea,' we played just enough to propel us forward.

Thou have a bit of a reputation for doing Nirvana covers, even releasing of a full album of them titled Blessings of the Highest Order during the height of quarantine. The infamously ravenous Thou fans were stuck in their rooms, drinking every drop and begging for more and just their luck the band decided to release a full-length compilation of their non-Nirvana covers they recorded and released from 2009-2022. All of the songs on A Primer of Holy Words appeared on limited pressings of various split EPs and benefit compilations. The range of bands being covered is wide: Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains from abandoned tribute projects; Born Against from a small press European compilation; Ginger Quail, an obscure New Orleans punk band from the late 90s; and so on. Regardless of their standing in the civilian world, all of these bands and songs have had a strong imprint on Thou- much more so than "sludge" or metal in general or "the swamp" of New Orleans. New Noise Magazine described some of the tracks saying "They've got a Black Sabbath 'Sweet Leaf' cover that they've dirtied up to the point where it sounds like a High on Fire original, a blackend-sludge version of Born Against's 'Well Fed Fuck,' a bewitched version of Pearl Jam's 'Spin the Black Circle,' and an appropriately gross and desperate cover of Shellac's 'Prayer to God.' It's as good or better than their Nirvana album imho." And while the mentioned tracks will be on the vinyl version sans "Sweet Leaf" it will have a different track list from 2020's digital release including a cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's iconic track "Maps". This collection includes artwork from former New Orleans -now Mexico Cityartist Rachel Speck from her Tropical Goth imprint

The fifth and final volume in the classic Switched On series which compiles non-album tracks and sought after deep cuts by the group Stereolab. This volume is unique in that it does not hone in one particular period but gathers together unavailable tracks across the band’s career, from early EP Low-Fi, to the brain-scrambling mid-90’s Nurse With Wound remixes to unreleased installation tracks for sculptor Charles Long, culminating in a live version of fan favourite “Cybele’s Reverie” captured at the Hollywood Bowl.

A Single Man was one of the most eagerly anticipated albums of Elton John’s career. Released two years since his last album, Blue Moves, the Elton John that greeted the world in 1978 cut a sombre, serious figure; working for the first time since 1970 without producer Gus Dudgeon and for the first time since 1967 with Bernie Taupin (the only original album in his career completely with him), A Single Man yielded two of Elton’s best loved hits, Part-Time Love and the poignant, almost-instrumental closer, Song For Guy.

Released in November 1995, Love Songs was Elton John’s second CD retrospective of the 90s and built on the enormous success of The Very Best Of, and his first solo UK No 1, Sacrifice in 1990. Collecting 18 of Elton’s best loved ballads, Love Songs reached No 4 in the UK charts and remained in the listings for 48 weeks.

The vinyl version of the release was extremely limited, as a result, copies change hands for three-figure sums. This 2022 edition is presented as an audiophile 180gm double set.

Buoyed up by the surprise success of Tiny Dancer as a result its appearance in Almost Famous, Elton John enjoyed artistic reinvigoration in the early 21st century by returning to the sound and feel of his early solo albums. Released in September 2006, The Captain and The Kid followed the much-loved Songs From The West Coast and Peachtree Road; his 28th solo album was a direct sequel to the 1975 album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy.

Recorded in Atlanta, it picked up where it’s the original left off, and chronicled the lives of Elton and Bernie Taupin across the intervening years. Like its 1975 predecessor, the package  contains two booklets – Lyrics and Scraps

A complete album masterpiece in every sense of the word, considered by many people to be one of the greatest ever made, regardless of genre. Recorded at Studio Somil, Rio de Janeiro in 1972, the album was produced, arranged, directed by the self-taught, Arthur Verocai. Previously he had worked on many records in various capacities, with artists including Jorge Ben, Ivan Lins and Celia, but this album gave him the chance to do his thing in it's most pure form. The 29 minute masterpiece, perfect in it's arrangement and fusion of sonics, epitomises the sound of Brazil at the time; strings, guitars, pianos, break beats, bass lines, synthesizers, vocals from the wonderful Célia, Carlos Dafe and Oberdan (Banda Black Rio), plus percussion from Pedro Santos and Paulo Moura on sax. Bossa nova, samba, jazz, MPB, psychedelics and funk sit side by side effortlessly. The album transcends the genre of Brazilian music, and infact all genres. Highlighted in part by the number of artists that have sampled from it; MF Doom, Ludacris & Common, Little Brother, Jneiro Jarel aka Dr Who Dat?, Dibiase and Action Bronson amongst others. The original Continental version of the album now fetch around $2000. Our definitive re-issue is an exact replica of the gatefold original LP and the source master is taken from the Continental tapes, re-mastered in 2012 under Arthur's supervision.
Quick View

When we started our family group, The Staple Singers, we started out mostly singing in churches in the south. Pops saw Dr. Martin Luther King speak in 1963 and from there we started to broaden our musical vision beyond just gospel songs. Pops told us, “I like this man. I like his message. and if he can preach it, we can sing it” So we started to write “Freedom Songs,” like “Why Am I Treated So Bad,” “When Will We Be Paid For The Work We’ve Done,” “Long Walk To DC,” and many others. Like many in the civil rights movement, we drew on the spirituality and the strength from the church to help gain social justice and try to achieve equal rights.

We became a major voice for the civil rights movement and hopefully helped to make a difference in this country. It was a difficult and dangerous time (in 1965 we spent a night in jail in West Memphis, Arkansas and I wondered if we’d ever make it out alive) but we felt we needed to stand up and be heard.

So for us, and for many in the civil rights movement, we looked to the church for inner strength and to help make positive changes. And that seems to be missing today. Here it is, 2007, and there are still so many problems and social injustices in the world. Well, I tell you we need a change now more than ever, and I’m turning to the church again for strength.

With this record, I hope to get across the same feeling, the same spirit and the same message as we did with the Staple Singers and to hopefully continue to make positive changes. We’ve got to keep pushing to make the world a better place. Things are better but we’re not where we need to be and we’ll never turn back. 99 and 1/2 just won’t do! - Mavis

“Back to Westbeach with Donnel Cameron. I don’t remember that much about this album. Erik had just quit heroin and he was still sick. Two days after we finished, Erik checked himself into a rehab and stayed there for two months. That was 7 years ago and he has been totally sober ever since. Cool. He won’t even eat chicken if it has wine sauce on it. He made it clear that NOFX was more important to him than drugs. Anyway, I don’t remember how long this album took, but I do remember it took me a fuck of a long time to sing. Standard.” - NOFX

Drift, their fifth studio album sees PIANOS BECOME THE TEETH taking another sonic step forward to craft a musical statement that truly transcends genres.

For the recording of Drift, the band took it back to basics, starting at a family-owned cabin in the woods of Virginia, that they transformed into an analog recording studio. The band lived together, recorded together and ate dinners together where they would listen to the day’s recordings, talk about them and pull them apart and reworking them, creating what may be their finest album to date.

Per front man Kyle Durfey, “Something that we really took away from this experience was just the connection we had together. We produced the record ourselves with our longtime friend/collaborator/engineer Kevin Bernsten who recorded our first two records.” The recordings that the band created using innovative recording techniques, recording 100% analog are sonically transportive and certain to mystify and inspire generations of recording artists. All the echoes were made with old echoplexes and tape delay, which made for a really organic record. With Bersten’s help the band was able to take some of the weirder and more ambitious ideas they had and turned them into reality making this a fantastic album for immersive headphone listening.
